Gamedesign -- Semi-Professional list dedicated to Game Design issues

About Gamedesign
English (USA)

The Game Design mailing list is a group who discuss well.... Game Design issues. Sometimes this includes problems like marketing and business, but generally centers on what makes games tick. Membership of this list ranges from employees of some of the big game studios all the way down to amatures who are just getting a feel for things.
Traffic ranges from going a month with no discussion to hundreds of messages a month - it's extremely variable.
Now for the rules:

  • NO SPAMING / ADVERTISING: The list is advertising free - no little Yahooads at the bottom, etc. I also intend to keep it free of people hawking thier wares. However, if a conversation comes up and a product you market fits the bill, go ahead and speak up - I won't kick you off, since it's a very on-topic conversation.

  • FLAMING IS FORBIDDEN IN ANY FORM: That includes blatant product bashing, personal attacks, etc. If you don't understand what I mean by this, don't subscribe. Use reasonable language when dealing with others - we've had stuff like a simple post misconstrued into being death threats. And DO NOT piss off the moderator by telling him how much older your list is - forget it, this dates WAY back, and it's an irrelevant issue anyway.

  • THIS IS NOT A NEWS STOP: Stuff discussed on the list should somewhat stay on the list. If someone comments that they are working on (x) right now, or that (x) is getting close to ship date, don't bother posting it elsewhere. Wait till it's actually news. This is designed to be a somewhat open place for developers to discuss issues, and knowing that everything they say is going to be reposted elsewhere is not conducive (for Indies, this is no biggie. For professional devs in a corporate environment, this is a much bigger deal.)

  • Keep it on topic. Not capitolized or bolded, because things to wander off course from time to time. If it goes on too long, I might step in. But it rarely does.

OK, you've read the list info - now you can subscribe (if you agree to all that.) I'm not real keen on kicking members of the list off - but I will if you press your luck, and it doesn't take THAT much to tick me off enough to remove you. So don't try your luck ;-)
